Let's answer the most frequently asked questions about Canadian Experience Class:

It is designed for individuals who have gained skilled work experience in Canada and wish to become permanent residents. The CEC is one of the three federal economic immigration programs managed through the Express Entry system, along with the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

What language tests are approved for the Canadian Experience Class?

What is the difference between CEC and Express Entry?

The express entry system is an online system under economic immigration that IRCC uses in order to manage the three federal programs within it: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

How many pay stubs do I need to show for express entry?

You need to show that you have 1 year of skilled work experience, that is a total of 1,560 hours for 12 months. Pay stubs are a great way to prove that you meet this requirement especially if you worked part time. For example, Fifteen hours per week for 24 months is equal to 1 year full time (1,560 hours). You can work as many part-time jobs as you need to meet this requirement. It is recommended to show all your pay stubs from all skilled jobs you have done. If you worked full time, a letter of employment showing that you worked at least 30 hours per week for 12 months will suffice but it is always good to also show the pay stubs as added evidence to support your case.

How do I determine my TEER Code for Canadian Experience Class?

To be eligible for CEC, you need to have one year of work experience in TEER 3, 2, 1 or 0. Canada uses the 2021 National Occupational Classification (NOC) system to identify and categorize jobs (occupations) based on the training, education, experience and responsibilities (TEER) they require. To determine which TEER your job is, go to 2021 National Occupational Classification (NOC) and search for the job title or responsibilities that best match your current job. You must have completed the lead statement and at least 50% of the responsibilities in the TEER code. Remember that the job title does not have to match exactly with your current job as long as your responsibilities and lead statement match.

Is 450 a good score for CEC?

IRCC ranks Express Entry candidates in the pool using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). About every 2 weeks, IRCC invites the top candidates in the pool to apply for permanent residence during rounds of invitations. In 2023, the lowest all program CRS score was 481 but there were healthcare and STEM-specific draws held as low as 463. Immigration Consultants are predicting that CRS scores for 2024 are going to go down but it would be safer to aim for a CRS score of 480 or higher. If you are in an in-demand occupation such as healthcare, construction or STEM you should aim for CRS Scores of 460-480 as Canada aims to fill  labour shortages in these industries.
