What is Federal Skilled Worker Program?


The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) is a category of economic immigration under the Express Entry system in Canada. It is designed for individuals who have gained skilled work and wish to become permanent residents. The FSW is one of the three federal economic immigration programs managed through the Express Entry system, along with the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).


Who is eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

If you meet the minimum income requirements then you will not need a job offer. However, if you do not have enough money to support yourself and your family, you can still apply to the FSW program as long as you have job offer.

How long does it take to process the federal skilled worker program?

Once an application submitted under the federal skilled worker program is received by IRCC, it takes an average of six months to process the application.


What is the difference between FSW and Express Entry?

The express entry system is an online system under economic immigration that IRCC uses in order to manage the three federal programs within it: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades Program.
